Ahh... the Bliss of Unemployment

I have officially taken off my working shoes.  Yesterday was my last day and I am not quite sure what to do with myself.  Most of the baby prep is done (although I still haven't bought any baby wipes) and I await my mother's arrival tomorrow.  I am really looking forward to this time with her and will feel so much more at ease knowing she will be with me during such an important moment in my life.

I am sure there is something to scrub but I am awaiting the frenzy of energy required to initiate that kind of activity.  In the meantime, somebody hand me the bon-bons and the Guitar Hero Wiimote.

Day of Service.

To celebrate that big stud Martin Luther King, President Obama has asked everyone to make today a day of service. Celebrate MLK by making it a day on, not a day off.

Fair enough.

So I'm off to Prospect Park to mulch tree's, pretty parks are the coolest. And with the temperature being a balmy 29 degrees outside I'll get the chance to sun myself a bit. Perfect.

If you'd like to go out there and volunteer a couple hours of your time visit this website where you can search for volunteer opportunities around you.

Belly Cast Day.

Today we set out to create a belly cast. We picked up an all-in-one casting kit. If everything goes as planed we should have one giant belly cast. I'm thinking of mounting it to a canvas for a painting that may, or may not include robots traveling through pneumatic tubes--baby deetz will be living in the future after all.

To see how everything went all you have to do is read the next post.....

Belly Cast Destruction!!!

Oh No! It's Belly Cast Destruction!!! Well the cast went on pretty great, but taking it off was a whole other story. The cast ended up being flimsy and took too long to dry. Kirsten was mighty uncomfortable as she sat for twice the recommended time waiting for the cast to dry. It felt like we were removing a giant wet lasagna noodle that was over cooked.

I'm going to blame the makers of the belly cast kit, "Proud Body Pregnancy Art". The kit was a mess to deal with, our apartment looks like a plaster bomb went off. Application and drying times were both much longer then estimated. And the whole thing fell apart in the end. Boo....

Since I am an artist extraordinaire and Kirsten is of course a model/assistant extraordinaire it can't be our fault.

Well, back to the old drawing board.

What does medicine really know?

It's been a dramatic week in the Deetz belly. The midwives at the birth center sent me for a sonogram and non-stress test this week because they were seeing a combination of things they wanted to check out. Everything seemed to be fine except for an excess of amniotic fluid known as polyhydramnios. It can be serious if severe, but apparently my case is mild. Nevertheless, they insist on a weekly sonogram to monitor the situation.

Is this really necessary? I can't imagine that many sonograms is a good idea. Overuse of ultrasonic waves has been linked to hearing loss and I am not convinced they even know what they are looking for. She is a happy baby and I am certain she will let us know the moment anything spoils her mood.

and more photos for your viewing enjoyment...

Bowling with our Baby

Despite the start of a snow storm in the city, there was a great turnout for the Baby Bowling Shower. We even got to see our newest baby friends Jonah (3 1/2 months) and Emma (3 months). They were such good sports and we really had a great time. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. Your excitement and support means so much. We can't wait for you all to meet our baby girl.

Baby Bowling Today

Today we're going baby bowling at Melody Lanes. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to test video uploading with some awesome documentary footage. But for now here is another photo from the photo shoot. This is the last one with the cheesy color photoshoped on to a b&w image. I just couldn't help myself.

Happy 2009 from Baby Deetz. Even though she hasn't popped out yet I can tell she is pretty excited to meet everyone by how much she kicks Kirsten. Go baby go!
